IBEW NECA 252 – Spring Electrical Safety: What Homeowners Should Check Now

Spring is here—and it’s not just your closets that need attention. Your home’s electrical system could use some love too. Before summer kicks into high gear, it’s smart to check in on a few key safety items to keep your home running safely and efficiently.

Here’s your spring checklist:

🔌 Outdoor Wiring: Winter’s Wake-Up Call

Snow, ice, and wind can wear down outdoor wiring and outlets. Look for cracked insulation, loose connections, or damaged fixtures. And while you’re at it—where could a new outdoor outlet make life easier this summer? Think grills, lights, or yard tools.

🔥 Dryer Vents = Hidden Hazards

Lint buildup can seriously increase fire risk. Clear out your dryer vent inside and out, and make sure the airflow is strong. It’s quick, easy, and could save your home.

💨 Fans Need TLC Too

Ventilation fans in bathrooms and kitchens often get ignored. Dust them off and make sure they’re running smoothly. Poor airflow can lead to moisture issues or overheating.

🚨 Smoke & CO Alarms: Test Time!

Push those test buttons and swap in fresh batteries. Haven’t done it in a while? Let this be your reminder. Devices over 10 years old? Time for new ones.

⚠️ GFCI Protection: Shock Prevention

Test your GFCI outlets (found in kitchens, baths, and outdoors) to make sure they trip and reset properly. These outlets are your first defense against shocks.

Need Backup?

IBEW NECA 252 electricians are here for professional inspections, upgrades, or safety checks. We’ll make sure your home’s system is safe, efficient, and ready for whatever spring brings!
